Collins Otieno Jr.
Based in Kenya
I’m Collins Otieno Jr, a passionate Data Analyst and recent graduate of the Equitech Scholars Program. Currently, I’m pursuing a Bachelor’s in Software Engineering at The African Leadership University. My journey in data science has been shaped by hands-on roles, including as a Data Analyst Intern at eWAKA Mobility Ltd., where I leveraged data insights to advance sustainable transport solutions, and as a Marketing Intern at Launch International, where I applied SEO and web development to expand digital reach.
I contributed to a project at Think Green Afrika on integrating Indigenous knowledge into environmental education and sustainability, which deepened my commitment to leveraging data and research for societal benefit. This experience reinforced my belief in the power of local knowledge and data-driven approaches to driving environmental resilience and education.
Joining Equitech Futures as a Research Fellow allows me to explore my passion for educational research even further. I’m particularly motivated by the potential of data and AI to make learning more accessible and impactful, breaking down barriers to knowledge and equipping people to reach their potential.
In addition to my research work, I co-founded the Start Walking Foundation, a CBO supporting underprivileged students in Kenya with mentorship, educational resources, and period poverty solutions. At Equitech Futures, I look forward to advancing initiatives that blend technology, education, and social impact, creating a lasting difference in the communities we serve.
