Montserrat (Montse) Madrigal, Los Angeles (United States) received her B.A. in English from Bowdoin College, Maine. She unexpectedly fell in love with data science and statistics while auditing a course at a community college in LA. She is interested in using the power of data-centered storytelling to lift up the stories of marginalised communities in the US. She is interested in building human-centered AI and data-enabled systems. She also hopes to use her position as a woman of color in STEM to advocate for increasing representation of women in science and technology, particularly women with non-traditional academic backgrounds. As an EquiTech Scholar, Montse wants to explore ways to combine data science and storytelling to highlight problems at the intersection of technology and social inequality.
